Moose Jaw studies expanded use of underground hot water

Moose Jaw is hoping to tap into underground heated water for its new Agri-Food Industrial Park.

The city of Moose Jaw will apply for grant funding to drill a geothermal test well.

Natural Resources Canada will provide full funding required up to 5 million dollars to move the Geothermal project to the next level, including digging a test well and feasibility studies into full-scale industrial use.

The goal is to secure funding to continue exploration into the geothermal energy potential for use in heating and industrial processing at Moose Jaw’s Agri-Food Industrial Park.

Moose Jaw city council has approved 54 thousand dollars to fund a preliminary economic assessment of the geothermal potential of land southeast of the City.

Moose Jaw has a long history of using geothermal-heated water, with the Temple Gardens mineral spa and the former Natatorium pool using geo-thermal water from Moose Jaw wells.
