Liberal government makes major cabinet shuffle

The federal government has announced a cabinet shuffle Tuesday morning.

Some of the highlights include former Health Minister Patty Hajdu will now become the Minister of Indigenous Services. Former procurement minister Anita Anand will take over as Minister of National Defence.

Marie-Claude Bibeau remains the Federal Agriculture Minister, and former Indigenous Services Minister Carolyn Bennett becomes the Minister of Mental Health, and Jean-Yves Duclos becomes the new Health Minister.

Notable climate activist-turned politician Steven Guilbeault has been named Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

Two notable people who held cabinet positions in the past include former western representative Jim Carr and former Foreign Affairs Minister Marc Garneau.

One person that was guaranteed to keep their current position is Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland.

The new cabinet features 19 men and 19 women.

The new cabinet comes just over a month after the 2021 federal election that saw the Liberal party win a similar majority to what they saw in 2019.
