One of the top questions in Riderville this week has been about Mitchell Picton starting in place of Kian Schaffer-Baker in Montreal on Saturday.
Coach Craig Dickenson spoke to reporters from Montreal on Friday, and said the answer is simple and there’s not a lot to read into.
“Just a staff decision on offence, they’re both going to play a lot” Dickenson said. “The offensive staff felt like Picton deserved a start this week, so they’re going to start him,” Dickenson added.
Through eight games this season, Schaffer-Baker has 33 catches for 449 yards and a touchdown. Picton who’s also been involved in eight games, has 17 grabs good for 166 yards and one touchdown.
There’s also been a lot of talk surrounding John Ryan, who has been placed on the six game injured list with an ankle injury.
Dickenson said the veteran punter will more than likely be out for the season and playoffs with a bad ankle sprain and a possible a small fracture.
Kaare Vedvik will start in his place.
Vedvik, who’s from Norway, was taken by the Riders in this past May’s Global Draft.
When it comes to who will hold the ball for kicker Brett Lauther, Dickenson said that’s going to be a game time decision, but it will either be Vedvik or backup quarterback Isaac Harker.
Both teams haven’t faced each other this season, but come in with the same 6-4 record.
Game time from Montreal on Saturday is 5:00 p.m. on 620 CKRM, pre-game coverage gets underway at 2:00 p.m..
