Pulse crop by-product being commercialized after 3 million dollar research project

A $3-million research project from Regina-based Protein Industries Canada is moving into commercial production.

CEO Bill Gruel says a by-product of pulse crop processing has been turned into a component for fertilizing prairie crops.

Gruel says the by-product, pulse crop seed hulls, have been turned into a carrier for micro-nutrient fertilizers.

Gruel says the new product improves crop yield by 5 to 10 percent.

The commercialization of the pulse crop by-product is being done by AGT Foods of Regina and Lucent BioSciences of B.C.
