International flights will also resume at St. John’s, Hamilton, Waterloo, Kelowna, Abbotsford and Victoria.
These airports, in cooperation with the Public Health Agency of Canada, the Canada Border Services Agency and Transport Canada, are working to implement the measures necessary to start safely welcoming international passengers as of November 30.
President and CEO of the Regina Airport Authority James Bogusz said the international ban had a negative impact on the airport since many direct flights had to be rerouted to nearby airports like Calgary. He also says that the ban had a negative impact on non commercial flights. “These would be private jets that would use our facilities which is actually a big part of our business, all of the aircraft regardless of type would have to go through Calgary or Toronto or even Winnipeg to clear customs before they would come to our province.”
Travellers who are looking to fly south to warm, sunny destinations beginning in December can now go ahead and start making some plans. Bogusz said with flights offered from Sunwing, passengers will be able to head to places like Mexico. Dominican Republic and Cuba directly from Regina.
YQR International Airport will be well equipped to handle the inspection of vaccination status according to Bogusz. He says that travellers will need to have the ability to prove their vaccination status. Throughout November they will be offering an alternative in the form of a PCR test.
