After a small private ceremony last year, the Royal Canadian Legion will once again extend an invitation to the public to attend it’s Remembrance Day ceremonies.

The ceremony will begin at 10:40 at the Cenotaph in Victoria Park. Everyone who is planning to attend the service is asked to arrive no later than 10:30.

Parade Marshal Henry Sobchyshyn says that he’s looking forward to the ceremony this year after COVID-19 altered their plans in 2020. “Last year we didn’t even know what we were going to be able to do, if just maybe a few of us get together lay a wreath and say a prayer or two, but we were able to do a sort of a skeleton service, I think it was good because the weather was bad too.”

Last year the service was restricted to a small amount of visitors due to COVID-19, but this year there will be no limitations. Sobchyshyn noted that everyone is asked to wear a mask and to use social distance from other individuals. Seating will only be provided for the dignitaries and participating veterans at the service, but Sobchyshyn did note that the benches inside of Victoria Park will be available for use.

The service will include the moment of silence that will take place at 11:00, the piper band, poems and the official laying of the wreaths will also be apart of the service on Thursday.
