The provincial government is allotting funds to make child care more affordable for families with children ages zero to five.

The funding will be provided to licensed facilities to reduce parents’ out-of-pocket child care fees by an average of half. The move is retroactive to July 1st of this year.

This is the first step in a goal of $10 a day licensed child care in Saskatchewan by the 2025-26 fiscal year which comes after the early child care agreements reached with the federal government in August which will also help increase training opportunities for early childhood educators and deliver a wage increase.

Depending on the amount of fees paid, some families will receive a refund. Child care providers will be responsible for the distribution of funds to eligible families.
