The Parole Board of Canada is saying no to a request for full parole for a woman convicted of killing a Saskatoon family of four while driving impaired.

The board says full parole is premature for 54-year-old Catherine McKay and that she will remain on day parole for six months.

The board adds McKay has issues in managing her emotions and at times she is disrespectful to her case managers. Another factor in denying the request was a request McKay made to visit a pub for a memorial service.

Jordan Van De Vorst, his wife Chanda, and their two children were killed on the outskirts of Saskatoon in January 2016 when McKay ran a stop sign and crashed into the family’s vehicle.

At the time, McKay’s blood-alcohol level was three times the legal limit. She pleaded guilty to four counts of impaired driving causing death.
