Flax straw plant to be open in Regina in April

A Saskatchewan company is building a million dollar flax straw processing plant in Regina.

Prairie Clean Energy president Mark Cooper says the waste straw would be processed into pellets and sold worldwide for a biofuel in power plants and other heating uses.

Cooper held introductory talks last week in Regina with Japanese power company Renova, which he describes as positive.

Cooper says his company expects to buy about 6 thousand tons of flax straw this year.
