New flax processing plant opens east of Regina

A new flax processing plant has opened east of Regina at a cost approaching 10 million dollars.

Scoular Canada vice president of processing, Jeff Vipond says the new flax facility is adjacent to a pulse crop cleaning plant at Richardson.

Vipond says the milled flax is used for food ingredients and pet food and has organic capacity.

The Scoular Canada facility is the first flax plant to open in Western Canada in almost ten years.

Canada is a world leader in flax production, and more than 80 percent of Canada’s flax is grown in Saskatchewan.
