Sask farmers disappointed with latest grain shipment figures

Saskatchewan farmers are disappointed with the latest grain movement numbers.

The Ag Transport Coalition says CN Rail only supplied 24 to 30 percent of the hopper cars ordered in the last half of January for prairie grain movement.

The vice chair of SaskWheat, Jake Leguee of Weyburn, says the figures are stunningly bad.

Leguee says the numbers are upsetting but weather was bad in B.C. last fall and early winter.

However, he didn’t expect the backlog to continue this long.

Leguee says farmers have less crop to market due to drought last year but the railways need to do a better job moving grain to port.
