it was a very busy day yesterday full of ups and downs at the Tim Hortons Brier in Lethbridge for Colton Flasch’s Saskatchewan rink.
They won a tiebreaker in the morning against Matt Dunstone and won the opening round of the playoffs over Brad Jacobs in the afternoon.
Flasch’s rink ran out of gas in the evening, losing 7-2 to Kevin Koe, dropping Flasch to a must-win, 4-vs-3 page playoff game against Brad Gushue this afternoon.
Gushue’s longtime third, Mark Nicholls, was ruled out of the playoffs due to a positive covid test. Prior to yesterday’s loss to defending champion Brendan Bottcher, the Gushue rink had been undefeated at the Brier.
Flasch must win and keep winning to stay in the Brier. If he beats Gushue, Flasch will play in Sunday afternoon’s semifinal between the loser of Saturday evening’s match between Koe and Bottcher.
The final is Sunday evening.
