Sask farmers welcome end to CP Rail two day shut down

Saskatchewan farmers are breathing a sigh of relief following an end to the 2-day CP Rail shut-down.

The two sides have agreed to binding arbitration and workers are back on the job.

Agriculture minister David Marit says the return to work is great news.

He was concerned about the export of farm products as well as the import of much-needed feed grain for the livestock industry.

The president of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association says last years drought created a shortage of feed grain for the cattle industry.

SaskWheat chair Brett Halstead also welcomes a return to work at CP Rail, expressing concern about Canada’s reputation as a reliable supplier of grain in a world needing Canadian wheat right now because of geo-political issues.

Although workers have returned to work, it’s expected it will take a few days for train schedules to get back to normal.
