The latest step in the process of becoming a serious power in “the beautiful game”, is a berth in the World Cup.
Before a packed and cold BMO Stadium in Toronto, the Canadian side scored early, cruising to a 4-0 victory over Jamaica.
The win guarantees Canada a birth in the 2022 World Cup, being held in Qatar
Kyle Larin sent the home town crowd into a frenzy, with a goal in the 14th minute. That was followed up by a goal by Tajon Buchanan just before the end of the first half in the 44th minute.
The spirited Canadian side added two more goals in the second half, one of them an own goal, when a Jamaican defender put the ball into his own net.
This is Canada’s first birth for he men’s team since a victory over Honduras in 1985, put Canada into the World Cup fin 1986.
