FCC report says Canadian food manufacturing industry had strong sales last year

A new report from Regina-based FCC says the Canadian food manufacturing industry had a booming year in 2021.

Farm Credit Canada chief economist J.P. Gervais says food manufacturing sales rose almost 15 percent last year and are expected to jump 7.4 percent this year.

He says vegetable oil, notably canola, has had a strong year.

Gervais says meat processing also remains a strong part of the food manufacturing sector in Canada.

He says food export growth came from the U.S., Mexico, Philippines and South Korea last year.

Conversely, he says exports to China declined over 16 percent on lower pork demand.
