The federal government has announced improvements to the advance payments program for farmers.

Agriculture minister Marie-Claude Bibeau says the enhancements are designed to help farmers facing disrupted supply chains, rising costs, and issues from last year’s drought.

She announced there will be a temporary waiving of the requirement for two installments, 60 percent up front and 40 percent after seeding is confirmed.

The change will allow farmers to receive 100 percent of their 2022 advance immediately when they apply.

Farmers are eligible to receive up to one million dollars under the cash advance program, with the first 100 thousand dollars interest free.
