Pats bow out of playoff race after another loss to Ice

The Regina Pats dropped their second in a row to the Winnipeg Ice Saturday night and saw their playoff chances evaporate.

The Pats 6-4 loss combined with the Prince Albert Raiders’ 5-1 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings means the Pats are on the outside looking in for the 2022 playoffs.

Logan Nijhoff scored twice for the Pats, with Braxton Whitehead and Easton Armstrong scoring the others. Spencer Welke stopped 34 shots in the Pats net.

The Pats have one more tilt this season, a Sunday afternoon battle with the Moose Jaw Warriors.

The last time the Pats made the playoffs was 2018, when the Memorial Cup host Pats lost in the first round to Swift Current. Nijhoff was the last player left from that team, and he is in his last season of junior hockey and as such, will be playing his last game against the Warriors.

Also finishing their junior careers this season are defencemen Ryker Evans and Neithan Salame.
