Ottawa announces support for grain export promotion

The federal government has announced support of over 400 thousand dollars to Regina-based Prairie Oat Growers Association.

The chair of the Prairie Oat Growers, Chris Rundel of Foam Lake, says the funds will be used to help increase demand for high quality Canadian oats.

He says efforts are underway to expand Canadian oat sales in emerging markets like Japan and Mexico.

The federal government is also providing up to 3.5 million dollars to Winnipeg-based Cereals Canada to promote Canadian wheat in international markets.

Another 461 thousand dollars will go to the Canada Grains Council to increase and diversify Canadian grain exports in international markets.
