Riders Lose 20-18 in BC.

The pre-season is done.  Next time, the points matter.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders wrapped up their pre-season schedule, with a 20-18 loss to the BC Lions in Vancouver.

Cody Fajardo looked confident, and cool moving the offense in the first few series of the game.  The Riders starter led the team downfield to match a first quarter field goal by the Lions to knot the score at 3-3.

The Lion’s drive before that ate up a lot of game time in the first quarter and showcased the BC Lions young Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke. The Victoria born Rourke went to Ohio University and has been anointed as the BC Lions starter.

Its a move that has raised some eyebrows, especially since his back up is expected to be fellow Canadian Michael O’Connor. O’Connor is University of BC product, who led the Thunderbirds to the Vanier Cup in 2015. Rourke finished his time at the controls going 13 for 19.

As for the Riders, Cody Fajardo appeared to complete an amazing pass and catch with receiver Duke Williams in the BC end zone.  A video review showed Williams was unable to hold on to the ball after falling to the ground.  Coach Craig Dickenson then tossed the challenge flag, and had the play reviewed for pass interference. The booth review showed the PI, and the Riders had the ball on the BC one yard line.  Riders quarterback Cody Fajardo charged across the goal line for the touchdown. Fajardo finished the game 4 for 10 for 42 yards, plus the rushing TD.

Mason Fine then took over for the Riders, driving the offense to a field goal, putting the Riders up 12-3 in the second quarter.

In the second half, after tossing a goal line interception, Riders quarterback Jake Dolegala tossed a great pass to receiver Justin McInnis.

Saskatchewan kickers missed two point after attempts.

After two pre season losses, the book is now closed a the Canadian Football League will crank up the regular season Thursday, with Montreal visiting Calgary .
