Study released on beef packing plant for Saskatchewan

A new report out Monday June 6 is looking at the possibility of a beef packing plant in Saskatchewan.

The report is highlighted at the annual meeting of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers in Assiniboia.

Co-author Willie Van Solkema sees the possibility of a new processing plant but says there are many challenges.

He says Saskatchewan has a robust cattle industry and the required number are available in Saskatchewan.

Solkema suggests a beef packing plant handling somewhere between 150 and 12 hundred head of cattle per day could be feasible in this province.

The Stock Growers annual meeting goes June 5th to 7th in Assiniboia.
