Southeast Saskatchewan shook up by thunderstorm activity

It was anything but a calm quiet Sunday in southeast Saskatchewan.

A storm popped up that created heavy winds, hail, and thunderstorms.

James Colangelo from Environment Canada says there were reports of flooding and tree damage in Kipling.

There were also reports of baseball sized hail in Corning, tennis ball sized hail in Langbank and golf ball sized hail in Rocanville.

Reports of heavy winds and power lines being knocked down near Welwyn with winds reaching speeds of 100 km/hr according to Colangelo.

The storm on Sunday was created by a low pressure moving up from North Dakota Colangelo explains. He noted along with the low pressure system, another weather front was pushing eastwards. With these two systems meeting, Colangelo says a quick shift in temperatures was created.

Thunderstorm activity is a possibility once again in southern Saskatchewan on Monday. Colangelo says that we will likely see some development later in the afternoon in the southeast section of the province. Some thunderstorms could begin in the early evening, but are expected to travel east later in the evening.
