Three youths charged after traffic stop

Three youths are facing numerous charges due to a traffic stop early Friday morning.

At 3:00 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on 3rd Avenue and Garnet Street.

When officers approached the vehicle, they saw what appeared to be a sawed-off rifle on the front passenger side of the car. The object was later confirmed to be a working firearm; however, there was no ammunition.

A 15-year-old male was arrested for a breach of probation (curfew) and a breach of a firearms prohibition.

Further investigation led to the arrests of a 15-year-old female and a 17-year-old male from the same vehicle.

The 15-year-old and 17-year-old males are charged with breach of probation and various possession of firearms charges.

Both made their first court appearances in Youth Court on Friday.

The 15-year-old female was charged only with a breach of undertaking (curfew). She was released with a future court date of August 11.
