There is lots to do in and around Regina this Canada Day.
In addition to the things going on at Government House, Family friendly activities will be taking place at Wascana Park once again. Main stage performers go from noon to 8 p.m., with glam rocker Nick Gilder (Roxy Roller, Hot Child in the City) closing the show.
Family fun zone performers go from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Activities in the family zone include a scavenger hunt, a collaborative cube mural. face painting and Regina Public Library interactive booths. At 1 p.m., a Classic Strongman Championship League will be set up at Legislative Drive.
There is also a cultural village at the bandshell in Wascana Park at 1 p.m., presented by the Saskatchewan African Canadian Heritage Museum. Performers will be on stage from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The provincial legislature is offering tours all weekend from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. all three days. Tours will start every half-hour.
The RCMP will also be doing their sunset ceremony starting on Canada Day, going every day until Aug. 9 at the RCMP Heritage Centre. A sunset-retreat ceremony has included the march past of RCMP cadets, dismounted cavalry drills, and a trumpeter playing a retreat as the Canadian flag is lowered.
The fireworks this year will start at 10:30 p.m., weather permitting. Fireworks will be able to be seen anywhere in Wascana Park but organizers suggest anywhere along the lakeshore will be ideal.
Before the fireworks get underway, there will be a road closure of Albert Street between College Avenue and Regina Avenue. the city is also asking that people not park illegally on the Highway 1 bypass between Assiniboine Avenue and Wascana Parkway, or on Broad Street between College Avenue and Lakeshore Drive.
