New federal clean fuel standards could lead to rising demand for canola oil

New federal clean fuel regulations could lead to a growing market for Saskatchewan canola growers.

The manager of biofuel policy at the Canadian Canola Growers Association, Steve Pratt, says the new regulations come into effect July 2023.

He says biofuels like canola are expected to play an expanded role to lower the greenhouse gas emission profile of diesel fuel.

Pratt says the impact of the new clean fuel standards on canola demand may not be felt for 3 to 4 years.

But he say the rising demand could be in the millions of tons.
