CFIB adds support to farmers worried about federal proposals on reducing fertilizer use

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business is showing support for farmers worried about federal proposals on fertilizer use.

The CFIB is imploring the federal government not to mandate reductions in fertilizer emissions.

The government is currently conducting consultations on its plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from nitrogen fertilizer by 30 percent by 2030.

Taylor Brown is the CFIB’s policy analyst for Western Canada.

She says they surveyed their farmer members about the emissions target.

Brown says about two thirds of respondents to the CFIB survey said that a mandatory fertilizer emissions reduction could decrease the profitability on their farm.
