Regina council to consider 2024 Brier bid

The City of Regina may be throwing its name into the hat to host the 2024 edition of the Brier.

Regina’s city council is set to consider putting a $200,000 bid on the annual men’s curling tournament.

The recommendation is set to go before council this Wednesday with the proposal requiring Curl Regina to demonstrate it can plan and host the event through a comprehensive budget and event plan.

The $200,000 bid would consist of a $125,000 cash grant in addition to the provision of Regina Transit services valued at up to $75,000.

The 2024 Brier is set to take place from March 1 to 10, with an economic impact assessment from Curling Canada stating that a typical Brier is supported by over 400 volunteers and generations a minimum of $8 to $12 million.

The last time Regina hosted the Brier was in 2018.

Other centres in contention for the 2024 Brier include Victoria.
