Man accused of cruelty to woman’s cat

A Regina man has been charged with cruelty to animals after a grey and white male cat was stolen.
In June, on the 2300 block of McAra Street a cat went missing. The cat’s owner checked her video surveillance system and saw an unknown male luring the cat and taking him from her yard.
A day later, the cat was found dead in a field in Northwest Regina.
A necropsy on the cat determined the cat’s injuries were severe and not accidental.
Investigation of the video led to the arrest of 29-year-old Matthew James Drummond of Regina who has been charged with theft, breaching probation orders and causing unnecessary suffering to animals.
He made his first court appearance in provincial court Wednesday.
