An air quality statement is in place for many areas of Southwest Saskatchewan, including Moose Jaw, Swift Current and Maple Creek.
Wildfire smoke is headed into these areas and cause poor air quality, and reduced visibility at times. People with lung diseases such as asthma and C.O.P.D. can be sensitive to air pollution.
Environment and Climate Change Canada says wildfire smoke is a constantly-changing mixture of particles and gases which includes many chemicals that can harm your health. They add that if you or those in your care are exposed to wildfire smoke, you should consider taking extra precautions to reduce your exposure.
The statement extends from Pense south towards the U.S. border, and west towards Alberta.
There are currently 34 active wildfires in Saskatchewan, many of them in the far north, and three of them are not contained. There are 48 active wildfires in Alberta, but all are contained.
