Band together to eliminate cankerworms

Cankerworms beware: citizens are being encouraged to band together to eliminate the pests.

The ‘Band Again’ campaign has been launched for residences in the Queen City to band elms, Manitoba Maples and fruit trees in the fall.
Tree banding is a pesticide-free, inexpensive way to eliminate cankerworms. Cankerworms, if uncontrolled, can do massive damage to the city’s trees.
Last year, the city sprayed 11,000 trees for cankerworms. Every band helps reduce the number of trees sprayed in the spring. By stopping one cankerworm, up to 400 larvae can be prevented.
