Weyburn Fire Department fights fire you could see from space

Yesterday afternoon, Weyburn’s fire department went into heavy smoke and wind gusts of up to 90 kilometers and hour to fight a fire northwest of the city, near the community of McTaggart.

There were motor graders from the RM of Weyburn and the City of Weyburn in to assist in cutting fire breaks in surrounding fields to the south and east, the city of Weyburn said in a release.

The Weyburn Fire Department were also assisted by local farmers and property owners with heavy equipment to aid in containment and suppression of the fire.

Fire crews remained on the scene until 5 a.m. this morning, to protect a home in the area that had not been damaged and to ensure the fire did not reignite.

The Weyburn Fire Department will continue to monitor the scene.
