Around 1,000 residents filled the AGT Lounge at Mosaic Stadium this week in eight public information sessions for the Catalyst Committee.
The sessions featured the topic of five recreation and culture facility projects proposed to revitalize Regina. The proposed projects include a multi-purpose events centre (arena), indoor aquatic facility, multi-purpose outdoor baseball event centre, synthetic outdoor field (soccer) and modernization of the central Regina Public Library.
The Co-Chair of the Committee, Tim Reid, said the sessions were a wonderful example of a needed community conversation.
“I think we got some great feedback from very diverse pockets of our community who have incredibly passionate opinions about whatever they were passionate about,” he said. “We intended to create a conversation; we intended to give each of these projects a platform by which they could share, and I think we did that.”
As for what’s next, Reid said that they would have a meeting next week to start discussions.
“We are going to talk about the planning document that exists within the City of Regina right now, from the OCP to the Recreational Master Plan to the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan to everything in between,” he said. “Our goal is to inform the committee this month, give them as much education as possible and then get into the planning work in November and December and hopefully have a document ready for city council in early council.”
While the in-person meetings are now complete, online engagement continues at Regina.ca/catalyst. Project presentations and video recordings of each project’s first session are available on the site.
There have been more than 2,200 responses to the community survey.
The survey will be open at Regina.ca/catalyst until November 10.
