One member of the University of Regina Rams was recognized for his efforts in the 2022 season.
Linebacker Ryder Varga was named the Can West Football Defensive Player of the Year on Thursday.
This past season, Varga led the Rams with 38.5 tackles, he tied a school record by forcing three fumbles and also registered 6.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, an interception, a pass breakup, a fumble recovery, and a blocked kick.
Earlier this year, the linebacker was selected by the BC Lions in the third round with 29th selection. He is now a two time Can West all-star.
Varga becomes the third Ram to be named Defensive Player of the Year joining Jeff Zimmer (2001) and Mat Nesbitt (2007).
