Riders ink electric Alford to contract extension

The West Division’s most outstanding special teams player will be a Roughrider for another year.

Receiver and return man Mario Alford was acquired by the Green and White from Montreal in week five and ran back some impressive pnts, kicks and missed field goals. He is the fifth player in CFL history to return a kick, a punt and a missed field goal for a touchdown in a single season.

He had spent two seasons with Montreal before the trade. Before that, he was a 2015 NFL draft pick by the Cincinnati Bengals and had spent time with four NFL teams.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
