High foot and vehicle traffic is suspected ahead of the Grey Cup – RPS has a plan

After a week-long celebration in the Queen City, the countdown to kickoff is on.

The 109th Grey Cup game begins at 5:00 p.m. tonight at Mosaic Stadium.

The Regina Police Service has been working closely with its community partners to provide a safe, family-friendly environment at Regina’s REAL District during this week’s Grey Cup Festival.

Tomorrow, pedestrian and vehicle traffic is expected to increase significantly ahead of the Grey Cup game.

A larger number of people and vehicles will create congestion in the residential areas surrounding Mosaic Stadium and in parking lots at REAL District.

The Regina Police Service has additional officers assigned to assist with the flow of traffic and enhance the safety of those attending the game.

They’re asking all fans to be patient and respectful and to keep the following things in mind when making your own Grey Cup transportation game plan.

Shuttle services:

  • It’s strongly encouraged that football fans take advantage of the FREE city-wide Grey Cup Festival Shuttle Service being offered. More information can be found here.
  • Police will work with Regina Transit to ensure shuttle buses are given priority in entering and exiting the parking lot at Mosaic Stadium.

Driving and parking:

  • Give yourself extra time to navigate pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area.
  • Lock your doors and do not leave valuables inside your parked vehicle.
  • It will be cold, but don’t leave vehicles running and unattended.
  • Park legally – no blocking driveways or alleys in the residential areas surrounding Mosaic Stadium. Please be respectful of the neighbourhoods around Mosaic Stadium; no trespassing, excessive noise, littering, etc.
  • Do not drive impaired. Police officers will be present at the game and around the city to keep an eye out for any signs of impaired driving.

The Grey Cup Game Day Traffic plan will be similar to those in place at all Saskatchewan Roughrider home games at Mosaic Stadium. However, road closures usually take effect three hours prior to the game. On Grey Cup Sunday, the following road closures will be in effect six hours prior to kickoff.

Beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, there will be no vehicle traffic allowed on the 1500, 1600, and 1700 blocks of Elphinstone Street. People are asked to respect the “No Parking” zones.  Fans and motorists will find road closures on:

  • 1500 block of Elphinstone Street at Dewdney Avenue
  • Princess Street and 9th Avenue.
  • Argyle Street and 9th Avenue.
  • McTavish Street and 9th Avenue.
  • Elphinstone Street and 9th Avenue.
  • Montague Street and 10th Avenue.
  • Elphinstone Street and North Railway Street.
  • Saskatchewan Drive and Elphinstone Street.
