Premier Scott Moe is in Washington, D.C. for a trade mission.
He will be trying to sell Saskatchewan’s minerals, and talk global energy concerns.
Moe says the U.S. is an important market for Saskatchewan.
Exports to the U.S. rose 51 percent from 13 billion dollars in 2020 to almost 20 billion dollars in 2021.
Saskatchewan’s top exports to the U.S. were crude oil, potash and canola oil.
He says Saskatchewan has occurrences of 36 of the 50 commodities on the U.S. critial minerals list essential for global economic security and a low carbon future.
Critical minerals are used in the manufacturing of batteries for powering portable electronic devices and electric vehicles, and rare earth elements are poised to play a significant role in the economic growth of the future.
Saskatchewan is home to the first of its kind minerals to metals rare earth processing facility in North America.
The Premier returns to Saskatchewan on Thursday.
