QE II Platinum Jubilee Medals Being Handed Out

Before she passed away in September, Queen Elizabeth II established the Platinum Jubilee Medal to celebrate her 70th year as Monarch.

Starting today, seven thousand of these medals are being bestowed on people in Saskatchewan who have made significant contributions to Canada, Saskatchewan or a particular community.

It will take two days, and three ceremonies per day to hand out this prestigious medal.  50 medals will be handed out at each ceremony.

The ceremonies are being held at Government House in Regina.

One of the honorees is 620 CKRM’s Jim Smalley.  Smalley has spent almost 50 years in broadcasting, and has been the Agricultural News Director at 620 CKRM for 40 years.  Smalley recently announced his retirement, as he will step away from the ag desk in April of 2023.
