While many people are preparing to gather with family and friends for Christmas this weekend, community outreach centres are doing just the same in ensuring that those in need also get an opportunity to gather together as a community for Christmas.
The Carmichael Outreach Centre is hosting its Christmas lunch today for those in need.
“For many of them and many families, this is their Christmas meal. This is an opportunity for them to sit down and have this type of festive feast together as a family and we’re so glad to be able to provide that for our community,” says Amanda Benesh, Development Coordinator for Carmichael.
Carmichael is serving a full Turkey dinner sponsored by Revera with all the works, including mashed potatoes, veggies, buns and butter, and much more.
The lunch started at noon and Benesh says it’ll go on until about 4 p.m.
Tomorrow, Souls Harbor Rescue Mission will host their Christmas meal tomorrow on the 23rd.
The meal will occur at 1632 Angus Street at 3 p.m.
The Marian Centre is putting on their Christmas lunch for those in need on Christmas Day at noon.
“Some people don’t have a place to go and be with other people at Christmas. They don’t want to be alone at Christmas, they want to be with other people and some people come here regularly so they know us. We’ve befriended them,” says Charlie Kavanaugh, Director of Marian Centre.
The centre will be serving roast beef sandwiches and sides of veggies and hot drinks.
The meal will go on until about 2 p.m.
