Pats wrap up homestand against Portland

The Regina Pats will close out their four-game homestand tonight when they host the Portland Winterhawks at the Brandt Centre.

This evening may be an opportune time for the Pats to play two game in two nights following their 7-4 win on Friday against the Saskatoon Blades.

Connor Bedard has been rolling since his return from the World Juniors in Halifax. In his first two games back, the Pats captain has racked up seven goals and added four assists. He also extended his point streak in the Western Hockey League (WHL) to 29 games. Bedard has another achievement to his already impressive resume by adding his 200th career point in the win versus the Blades.

Yesterday’s win also moved the Pats above the .500 mark as they sit in the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference. The out of town scoreboard on Friday was a good one for Regina as both Brandon and Swift Current were defeated, giving the Pats a little bit of extra cushion as they head down the stretch drive. Next weekend, the Pats will meet the Broncos in a pair of key matchups.

Tonight is the final game of a six game road trip through the eastern cities of the WHL for the Winterhawks. They kicked off the trip in Brandon last Friday and have gone 2-3 on the trip as they picked up victories in Saskatoon and Prince Albert. Portland will be one of the top contenders in the WHL heading into the playoffs. The Winterhawks are in second spot of the U.S. division as they sit three points back of Seattle.

Coverage of tonight’s game on 620 CKRM begins at 6:35, Dante De Caria will have the call at 7:00.
