Fresh off hosting the provincial Scotties last week, Estevan will now be the host of the 2023 SaskTel Men’s Tankard.
12 rinks across the province will be competing for the right to represent Saskatchewan at the Brier in London, Ontario next month.
Colton Flasch will return to the Tankard as he is looking to repeat as champion. Following his provincial victory last year, Flasch advanced to the playoff round of the 2022 Brier before settling for a fourth-place finish. His first game will take place Thursday morning in Draw #2.
Kelly Knapp is the only Regina based rink in this year’s Tankard with them curling out of the Highland Curling Club. Steve Layock’s rink is representing the Swift Current Curling Club, Josh Heidt’s rink is based out of the Kerrobert Curling Club and Logan Ede is curling out of the Martensville Curling Club.
There will be plenty of Saskatoon flavour at this event, with eight rinks from the Bridge City. There will be six rinks from the Nutana Curling Club, Flasch, Michael Carss, Jason Jacobson, Dustin Kalthoff, Rylan Kleiter and Dallan Muyres. The Sutherland Curling Club will have Daymond Bernath and Kody Hartung’s rinks in action this week.
Draw #1 begins kicks off on Wednesday night. The first qualifier for Sunday’s four team playoff will be decided on Friday afternoon with the remaining three spots to be determined on Saturday.
The Tankard will conclude at Affinity Place on Sunday with the final set to begin at 3:00 pm.
