Saskatchewan sees growth in building permits

Statistics Canada released its value of building permits numbers for December 2022.

Saskatchewan saw jumps in both month-over-month and year-over-year comparisons.

The province saw a jump of 26.1 per cent compared to December 2021 and 42.1 per cent compared to November 2022.

In both comparisons, Saskatchewan was one of only six provinces and territories that saw a positive increase and the second-highest increase.

Overall, Saskatchewan’s total value in December 2022 was $179.6 million.

The province also saw significant jumps in non-residential building permits, with an increase of 65 per cent when compared to November 2022 and 79.5 per cent when compared to December 2021.

Residential building permits weren’t fair as well, seeing an 18.9 per cent increase compared to November 2022 but a decrease of 11.5 per cent compared to December 2021.
