Scotties get underway in Kamloops

It won’t take long before Robyn Silvernagle’s rink is on the ice at the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kamloops.

Team Saskatchewan will be in action in the opening draw when they meet Nova Scotia’s Christina Black tonight.

Silvernagle’s squad will be competing in Pool A, which features three-time defending Kerri Einarson. Saskatchewan will meet the Team Canada rink on Tuesday.

The Einarson rink is trying become the second rink in Canadian history to win the Scotties four straight times, joining the team led by Colleen Jones (2001-2004). Team Canada opens its title defence against Quebec’s Laurie St-Georges.

Kaitlyn Lawes of Wild Card 1 faces Alberta’s Kayla Skrlik in the other matchup on Friday night.

Team Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones is looking to become the first Canadian rink to win seven national titles. She will be competing in Pool B and will open up tomorrow in Draw 2.

Round robin action wraps up on Thursday with the finals set for Sunday.
