SARM pushes for progress of Lake Diefenbaker irrigation project

SARM is pushing for more progress on the Lake Diefenbaker irrigation project to provide much-needed drought relief.

President Ray says 45 million dollars was allocated for preliminary engineering and there was discussion phase one work could start this year.

Orb says the four billion dollar mega-project was announced in 2020 and is hoping for an update on construction work.

Orb says the 4 billion dollar project could expand the provincial economy by 40 to 80 billion dollars.

He says it would irrigate another 250 thousand acres, increase crop production, improve food security and provide some drought relief.
