Elk Ridge Resort to host PGA Tour Canada event in June

The PGA Tour Canada will be making a stop at the Elk Ridge Resort this summer.

From June 19-25, the Elk Ridge Saskatchewan Open will take place as a part of the Fortinet Cup. Routes2SK will serve as the host organization and operate the day-to-day tournament functions.

Chase Tippet from the Elk Ridge Resort joined Michael Ball on the SportsCage on Thursday to discuss the event.

He said Elk Ridge is ready to show the golfers what Saskatchewan has to offer especially with the Elk Ridge Sask. Open being the only stop of the tour in the province.

“It’s just really exciting for these guys to come up really have their eyes opened up by the beauty. ”

Tippet noted the local residents are a strong drawing point.

“Everyone always said the people of Saskatchewan are the best people, we take pride in that.”

With some of the most promising golfers competing in Elk Ridge this June, Tippet encourages fans to come watch them in action.

“It’s truly mind blowing to see them go through a full round of 18 holes and how they attack the game, it’s very humbling that’s for sure.”

He added fans will be rewarded with the the experience of meeting the golfers.

“They’re phenomenal golfers but they are better people.”

Elk Ridge Resort is a 27-hole golf facility, with three nine-hole courses, the Tamarack, Aspen and Birch. PGA TOUR Canada will use a combination of holes for the tournament. Making up the front nine of the tournament composite course is Tamarack’s No. 1 and Aspen’s Nos. 2 through 9. The back nine is the entire Birch Course.

When the golfers arrive for the Elk Ridge Sask. Open in June, Tippet believes they will find some challenges with the courses.

“You get some really thick rough in the last week of June, that can grow up, it could be could pretty frustrating and the greens will be really rolling good, it’s going to be a good test.”

Tippet added there will be other events at Elk Ridge during the open including a Pro-Am tournament.
