Pat Canadians and Blazers to battle for SMAAAHL title in Game 5

Before the Regina Pats and Saskatoon Blades playoff series gets underway tomorrow night in the Bridge City, another hockey rivalry between the two cities will come to an end.

The Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL)  will wrap up tonight as the Pat Canadians take on the Saskatoon Blazers at the SaskTel Centre in a deciding Game 5 at the SaskTel Centre.

Last night in Game four, the Blazers were able to send the series back to Saskatoon with a 4-3 win.

In the late stages of the second period, Regina battled back from an early 3-0 deficit to tie the game at 3-3.

During the Pat Canadians comeback, there was a 45-minute delay following the second Regina goal as a couple of sheets of plexiglass was shattered after following the crowd’s celebration.

With both teams exchanging scoring opportunities in the final period, the Blazers literally snuck one underneath Pat Canadians goalie John MacPherson’s shoulder with 7:10 remaining to pick up the game-winning-goal.

The winner of tonight’s game moves on to the Western Regionals in Warman from April 6-9.

Along with the host Warman team, the Thunder Bay Kings have a clinched a spot as the Northern Ontario representative in the Regionals after defeating the Kenora Thistles in their league final. The Winnipeg Bruins and Winnipeg Wild are battling to be the Manitoba representative.
