Area in A.E. Wilson Park off-limits due to soil contamination

Soil testing at A.E. Wilson Park has revealed soil contamination in an area that has the potential to be harmful to people and pets.
Signs and fencing northwest of the Jack Hamilton arena will say the areas people and pets are advised to avoid for now.
A pathway near the affected area is safe and will remain open, and pet owners are reminded that the A.E. Wilson Park is an on-leash park.
Soil testing was being done to prepare for an upcoming construction project. The area is approximately the same place as a 1950s wastewater plant and landfill.
The city will continue to test to fully understand the extent of the soil contamination and the next steps.
