The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added some Canadian depth to the defensive line with the selection of UBC defensive lineman Lake Korte-Moore with the third overall pick in the 2023 CFL Draft.
Last season, the Ottawa product has six sacks with the Thunderbirds along with 48 tackles including 12.5 tackles for losses.
Korte-Moore’s grandfather, George Moore played in the CFL with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers during the 1950’s.
Shortly after being selected by the Roughriders, Korte-Moore spoke to media across the league.
The former Thunderbird already has established plenty of memories inside of Mosaic Stadium as a member of the Thunderbirds.
“I’m undefeated at Mosaic Stadium.”
He already owns a playoff victory inside of the Queen City as the Thunderbirds defeated the Rams in the Canada West Semi-Finalsd
Korte-Moore describes himself as a player who is a hard worker and is very disciplined player who is already about arriving to Saskatoon to compete in the Roughriders camp.
The Ottawa REDBLACK had the first overall selection and took Fresno State offensive lineman Dontae Bull.
With the second pick, the Edmonton Elks took Montreal linebacker Michael Brodrique
Roughriders General Manager Jeremy O’Day said they’re always on the lookout for players who offer a different dynamic like Korte-Moore.
“We’re always looking for guys who can rush the passer, he has the ability to do that, we think he can contribute right away, we think he can play on special teams, he’s got a lot of value there. ”
O’Day added that Korte-Moore was someone that was on the team’s radar for awhile leading up to the draft, and is particularly impressed with the his size and speed as he listed at 6’3 and 260 lbs.
Anthony Bennett was selected by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with the 8th pick in the first round. The former Ram joins the Blue Bombers after establishing a new single season sack record with the University of Regina this past season.
