The Battlefords North Stars got off to a good start at the 2023 Centennial Cup in Portage as they defeated the Kam River Fighting Walleye 4-1 on Thursday morning.

Steven Kesserling, Jackson Allan, Tanner Gold and Colby Bear scored for Battlefords.

Josh Kotai made 23 saves in the win for the North Stars.

After playing in the first game of the tournament, Battlefords will be off on Friday before they return to action.

The North Stars will face the Collingwood Blues (OJHL) on Saturday.
