Another season of Regina Red Sox baseball is about to get underway

 

The boys of summer have returned to the Queen City, as the Regina Red Sox are set to begin another season.

After a successful regular season where the Red Sox finished in the first place, Regina will try an avenge an early exit in the postseason after they were eliminated by Medicine Hat in the opening round of the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) playoffs.

On Thursday night, the Red Sox will open up the 2023 campaign on the road in Weyburn against the Beavers at 7:00.

Following the opening day contest against the Beavers, the Red Sox will begin a home and home set with the Swift Current 57’s. Friday night, Regina will visit Swift Current.

Then on Saturday, the Red Sox will hold their home-opener at Currie Field when the 57’s visit Regina with first pitch set for 7:00.

To wrap up the weekend, the Red Sox will welcome their Highway #1 rivals, the Moose Jaw Miller Express. It will be a matinee affair on Sunday, with the game getting underway at 2:00.

There will be some familiar faces returning to Regina this summer. Among the players returning are outfielder Michael Zinter, Pitchers Trevor Crawford, Jonathon Henry, Kade Douglas,  Catcher Jackson Alaniz. Also back for another season are Regina products Joan Bachiu, Dylan Edmands and Zane Pollon from Wilcox.

Ben Komonosky will lead Regina as the team’s head coach.

Okotoks will host the All-Star game on Saturday, July 15.

The Red Sox regular season will come to a close on August 5, with the playoffs to follow shortly.
