Riders Primed for Pre Season Opener

The Saskatchewan Roughriders lift the lid on their 2023 pre-season tonight as they host the BC Lions at Mosaic Stadium. Fans will be focused on a few key positions, starting with the offensive line as the club surrendered a team record 77 sacks last season.  Newcomers, former Blue Bomber Eric Lofton and Tremond Shorts, get the start at tackle tonight.
Jake Dolegala will start at quarterback for the Riders and will split reps with former Alouette and Lion Shea Patterson and returning pivot Mason Fine. They’ll be throwing to some new but veteran receivers, such as Juwan Brescacin and Shawn Bane Jr. who were both signed in free agency.
Saskatchewan will start a mostly veteran secondary on defence however with the departure of veteran Mike Edem all eyes will be on the safety position.  Jaden Dalke, in his second season,  gets the first chance to impress the coaches but fans can also expect to see Nelson Lokombo and 2nd round draft pick Jaxon Ford line up in that spot too.
As for the BC Lions they bring a mostly inexperienced squad into the game except at the key position where they give well traveled veteran Dom Davis the start at quarterback. We also expect to see Dane Evans get some reps as he was brought to Vancouver in a trade with Hamilton after the Tiger Cats signed Bo Levi Mitchell.
Our coverage on the 620 CKRM Roughrider Radio Network begins with Daniella Ponticelli and Don Hewitt at 2pm. Kickoff is at 5pm.
