Ecole Wascana Plains shut down after short circuit causes smoke

A small electrical-related short circuit caused Regina Public Schools to shut down the Ecole Wascana Plains school for the day.

Terry Lazarou, the supervisor of communications at Regina Public Schools, said emergency crews were on the scene around 10:00 a.m. this morning.

“Regina Fire and Protective Services were there and put out the short-circuit very quickly. Everyone was safe,” he said. “Because it involved the entire electrical system, we made the decision to close the school for the day.”

Lazarou added that they hope to have the school open on Monday but will be communicating with families over the weekend if plans change.
